You are role model for young generation: President tells APL players

KABUL: President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, met with the leadership of the Physical Education and Sports Institution, the Football Federation and the champion and runner-up teams of the ninth season of the Afghan Football Premier League (APL), as well as the champion and runner-up teams of Women’s Football League here at the presidential palace yesterday, a statement said.

During the meeting, which took place at the Salam Khana Palace, Mohammad Yusuf Kargar, President of the Afghan Football Federation, spoke and thanked the President for his attention to sports and the government’s support for athletes.

He also thanked the security and defense forces for ensuring the security of the ninth season of the Afghansitan Premier League, saying that the League carried messages of national unity and solidarity as well as support for the republic system, the presidential palace statement quoted.

Kargar congratulated the President, the First Vice President and all the people of Afghanistan on the successful holding of the ninth season of the Afghan Football Premier League, adding that if they receive more support, they will have achievements in the regional and international arenas.

Later, Fardin Hakimi, representing the 2020 APL champion Shaheen Asmayee team, and Arezoo Rahimi, the head of the women’s football team, spoke and thanked the leadership of the Afghan government for supporting football.

The President addressed the gathering, telling APL players that “you are our pride and role model for the young generation of Afghanistan. You brought us smile and joy and represented a healthy competition.”

The president added: “Thank you for choosing beautiful names for the teams of the Afghan Football Premier League.” The president congratulated the title winner Shaheen Asmayee football team and the runner-up Simorgh Alborz football team as well as the championship of Herat Women’s Football team and the runner-up of Kabul Women’s Football team.

The President thanked the First Vice President for solving the problems of the Football Federation and said that the government will provide them with more material and spiritual support.

At the end of the meeting, Hafizullah Wali Rahimi, President of Physical Education and Sports, and Mohammad Yusuf Kargar, President of the Afghan Football Federation, on behalf of others, presented the statue of the ninth season of the Premier Football League to the President.
