Women’s active role needed for lasting peace in Afghanistan

KABUL: Officials for High Peace Council (HPC) say for lasting peace and stability in the country, they need active role and participation of Afghan women. According to HPC officials, if Afghan women do not take active role in peace process, Afghans will lose all achievements they have attained during the past 17 years.
In a ceremony held in Kabul on the occasion of International Women Day, Deputy of High Peace Council, Habiba Surabi said: “The International Women Day is a day of solidarity for women; therefore, all Afghan women should raise their voice for lasting peace and stability in the country as women’s active role is needed in the connection.”
“If women do not work for peace in the country or they are not given role in peace process, we will lose all achievements of the past 17 years,” Surabi said.
In the ceremony, head of secretariat for HPC Mohammad Omar Daudzai spoke related to importance of women’s active role in peace process and considered it as significant in Afghanistan peace process.
Praising Afghan women for their efforts towards maintaining peace in the country, Daudzai said the country’s High Peace Council would fully support women’s active role in this regard.
