MAZAR-E-SHARIF: An exhibition, to show women handicrafts, was held in the northern Balkh province, on Tuesday, the organizers said Wednesday.
The two-day exhibition was organized by the International Labor Organization (ILO) in Mazar-e-Sharif, the provincial capital of Balkh to support investment and domestic producers in Afghanistan.
Balkh Governor, Mawlavi Abu Idris, Head of the International Labor Organization (ILO) in Afghanistan, Ramin Behzad and officials from the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI) attended the inauguration ceremony.
“Up to 60 small and big women-run enterprises participated in the exhibition, where traditional clothes, handicrafts, different kinds of candies as well as homemade foodstuff were displayed in 60 relevant booths,” said chairman of the chamber.
Visiting the displayed items, Balkh governor expressed his full support to domestic handicrafts, particularly from women in the province.
Head of the International Labor Organization (ILO) in Afghanistan who organized the exhibition said that a rapid assessment highlighted huge losses of 500,000 in jobs and working hours since the change in administration with women workers especially hard hit.
This is the third and largest exhibition held in the country’s northern Balkh province, since the takeover of Afghanistan by the Islamic Emirate in mid-August last year.
