KABUL: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met with the US Inter-Ministerial delegation headed by Zalmay Khalilzad, the US State Department’s special envoy for Afghanistan reconciliation here yesterday, a statement said. During the meeting, which took place at the Presidential Palace, both sides discussed the expansion of cooperation and the continuation of political, diplomatic, security, defense and economic relations, the presidential palace statement said.
Recalling the US Government’s $ 3.3 billion in annual assistance to the Afghan Security and Defense Forces, the US delegation conveyed the US Government’s message of support for the Security and Defense Forces, particularly to the Air Force and the economic and human rights sections, the statement added.
The delegation noted that in order to achieve the desired goal of an independent, united, neutral, democratic and peaceful Afghanistan,they will strive to preserve and strengthen the achievements of the past two decades.
At the end of the meeting, both sides emphasized the development of cooperation and the continuation of political, economic, diplomatic and security relations.
It is worth mentioning that the delegation will continue discussions with the Government of Afghanistan in the areas of supporting the security and defense forces and cooperation in the field of human rights and economics in the coming days, the statement further said.
