US envoy briefs President Ghani on peace efforts

KABUL: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and US Special Envoy for Afghan Peace Process Zalmai Khalilzad discussed peace process at the presidential office, a statement said yesterday.
During the meeting which was also attended by Afghan National Security Advisor and NATO Resolute Support mission Commander in Afghanistan, Khalilzad briefed the president on future plans and programs regarding his second round of trip to regional countries during a meeting which was held on Saturday evening, the statement said.
The envoy said that he would share the outcome of his visits with the president after they concluded.
The president hailed the efforts of US special envoy for Afghan reconciliation process and said: “We welcome every step which could help Afghan owned and led peace process.”
Khalilzad is scheduled to travel to Pakistan, United Arab Emirates and Qater to facilitate Afghan reconciliation process.
