KABUL: US Special Representative for Afghanistan Peace Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad on Monday briefed National Unity Government (NUG) leaders on latest round of talks with the Taliban representatives.
The separate statements from Presidential Palace and Chief Executive Office said Khalilzad informed the Afghan leaders about the recent talks and assured them of lasting peace across the country. The sources did not give more details about the meeting. Khalilzad met President Ghani and Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah after he arrived from Qatar, where the ninth round of talks ended without a final deal. Earlier, the US envoy tweeted that the US and the Taliban are at the threshold of an agreement – with Taliban that will reduce violence and open the door for Afghans to sit together ito negotiate an honorable & sustainable peace and a unified, sovereign Afghanistan that does not threaten the United States, its allies, or any other country.
