Up to 220kv power contract signed with Turkmenistan

KABUL: Afghanistan has signed a contract of double circuit power transmission line of 220kv from 110kv with Turkmenistan on Thursday, Da Afghanistan Breshna Shirkat (DABS) – The country’s main power supply company said recently.
After four-day of talks among the Da Afghanistan Breshna Shirkat (DABS) and Turkmenistan and the Turkish ÇALIK company, the contract for the extension of Herat based Noor-ul-Jihad power substation has been signed from 110kv to 220kv with the Turkmen Energo company, the state-run company said.
Noor-ul-Jihad is an area located in Afghanistan western province of Herat, where the electricity substation was recently activated. Late on last week, a high level delegation from the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan arrived in Kabul to discuss the legal and technical issues of some power projects including TAP (Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan) and Noor-ul-Jihad Substation. The meeting came soon after
at least ten Afghan provinces, including Kabul, the national capital, have been hit by a blackout triggered by technical problem for three days.
The 3-day joint meeting between DABS Leadership and Turkmenistan Delegation has been started at the DABS headquarters last week in Kabul. At the beginning of this meeting, Hafiz Mohammad Amin,
Chief Executive Officer of Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat said that Turkmenistan was a good partner to DABS in energy projects and we hope to accelerate the work of electricity projects, in particular, the Noorul-Jihad Substation and TAP project by creating a joint road map.
Myrat Artykov, Director of the TAP project, said that the main goal of this visit is to strengthen the bilateral relations between the DABS and the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan and stressed that in coordination
and close cooperation with the DABS, they will implement Noorul-Jihad Substation, TAP, and Karki-Andkhoy-Kabul projects.
DABS team and Turkmen delegation discussed the technical and legal issues of energy projects last week with both sides signing the contract on Friday.
Khawja Ewazov, Ambassador of Turkmenistan also attended this meeting.
This is to be noted that in the meeting, the Turkmen delegation thanked DABS Management for the electricity payment that was paid in advance by DABS.
