KABUL: First Vice President Amrullah Saleh met with Gilles Michaud, UN Under-Secretary-General for Safety and Security, at Sedarat-e Uzma Palace on Tuesday, saying that it was the time for Afghan government to ensure safety and security of Afghan people and international partners, a statement said yesterday.
Discussions centered at political and security imperatives, the statement form the first VP office said Wednesday. “Our partnership with the UN is growing & finding more alignment. Thanks @DeborahLyonsUN for your leadership. As an observer & distant veteran of Afghanistan Mr. Giles Michaud brings in more wealth to UN family here. All the best,” VP Saleh tweeted.
VP Saleh, as quoted by his press office, appreciated the support and contribution of UN for Afghanistan, reiterating that there were gracious investments by international allies to help Afghans stand on their own feet and according to him it was the time for the government to do more with less resources to deliver services and ensure safety and security of Afghans as well as International and UN missions in Afghanistan.
USG Michaud assured of continuation of UN’s meaningful presences in Afghanistan, the statement added.
