Thousands of acres of usurped land returned in Herat

HERAT: A total of 175, 672 acres of lands have been recovered from usurpers over the past ten months, in the country’s western province of Herat, a local official said Sunday.
Based on precise survey and serious investigation, the Herat provincial Land Usurpation Commission has returned 175,472 acres of state lands including pastures in different parts of the province, Mawlavi Pir Mohammad Halimi, head of the commission told media.
“Right now, 3,470 acres of usurped lands are identified and investigation is underway to return them from usurpers,” said the official.
According to him, 34,742 acres of pastures have so far been identified and efforts were underway to return them.
Mawlavi Halimi, went on as saying that some 1,000 acres of land usurpers have so far been identified through the commission.
Land usurpation has been a great challenge for Afghanistan throughout a few decades as the vast majority of land in the country, is untitled, a failure that completely help to sustainably resolve land dispute in the country. The Kabul Times
