Although debate in connection with peace talks is refreshing in national and international levels day by day, Afghanistan’s northern provinces have recently witnessed heavy fighting between Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) and Taliban fighters. Afghan political experts and members of parliament believe that Taliban have intensified their attacks on the country’s northern provinces particularly Kunduz, Takhar, Faryab, Balkh and Sar-e-Pul in recent weeks.
Besides, Taliban fighters have also intensified their attacks on Ghazni, Uruzgan, Zabul, Kandahar, Farah and Helmand provinces.
Shah Gul Rezayee, a representative of Ghazni people in parliament by expressing concern over increasing of Taliban attacks in the country said Taliban have recently increased their attacks on a number of provinces particularly Ghazni. She considered the security situation as bad, saying that the people were facing with lots of problems. Mrs. Rezayee asked the country’s defense and security organs to pay attention to overall security situation of the country particularly Ghazni city.
Lawmakers in parliament believe that currently Taliban have modern military equipment and arms and inflicted heavy casualties to ANDSF and ordinary people in their recent attacks on the provinces.
Meanwhile, a number of Afghan political experts in their interviews with The Kabul Times correspondent say experiences have shown that Taliban and armed opponent groups have always tried to insecure strategic provinces; therefore, it is time for Afghanistan intelligence organs to make further efforts towards spoiling their vicious plans.
“One of the ways that can stop armed opponent groups from reaching their goals is the close cooperation and coordination between the country’s defense and security organs,” Atiqullah Amarkhil, an Afghan military expert said.
He said that close coordination between the country’s defense and security organs could result in weakening of the enemy’s morale in battlefields.
Pointing to recent insecurities in the country’s north, Amarkhil says fortunately Afghanistan with its organized army and police has particular position in the world and region that want to help the country in maintaining security and stability.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan ministry of defense has informed of particular preparations to control insecurities in the country’s north, saying that the ministry will continue its military operations to suppress Taliban fighters in insecure provinces such as Ghazni, Uruzgan, Badakhshan, Kunduz, Faryab and Farah.
According to Afghan defense and security organs, Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) have launched military operations with close air support from Afghan air forces in 11 provinces of the country to suppress Taliban fighters.
Following surge in Taliban attacks on most provinces in the country’s north, ordinary people have taken arms and declared their support from ANDSF in different provinces to take role in suppressing Taliban fighters. Currently, serious fighting is ongoing between ANDSF and Taliban in most provinces of the country. Afghan security forces have recaptured a number of districts from the Taliban and are trying to make other progress in the country’s northern provinces.
