As US and Taliban are on the threshold of signing peace agreement in Doha, Taliban fighters in Afghanistan have increased and intensified their attacks on six provinces of the country such as Kunduz, Takhar, Badakhshan, Balkh, Farah and Herat. After Taliban’s attack on Kunduz was repelled by ANDSF, the group attacked on Pul-e-Khumri, provincial capital of Baghlan, from three different sides. Clashes between Taliban fighters and Afghan security forces lasted for hours and the group’s attack on the city was also repelled.
A number of former Afghan military officials say Taliban by increasing and intensifying their attacks on key and strategic provinces are trying to get further concessions in peace talks.
“Taliban want to expand their attacks in provinces which have not been their traditional bases and at the same time they want to continue peace talks with US. The group has foreign support, but their next goal is to transfer their fighters to Central Asian countries through Badakhshan,” said Mirza Mohammad Yarmand, former deputy minister of interior.
Meanwhile, Afghan security organs say Taliban do not have the ability to capture big and strategic cities of the country as Taliban’s recent attacks on Kunduz and Pul-e-Khumri cities have been repelled by Afghan Special Forces.
Based on reports, joint military operations of ANA, ANP and NDS forces have been launched in the northern and western parts of the country to clear remote districts and areas from presence of armed Taliban insurgents.
Ministry of Interior (MoI) has informed in a statement that hundreds of Taliban fighters have been killed and numerous arms and ammunitions have been seized during the joint military operations In various parts of the country.
Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) are now successfully defending the country as their high morale and combat skills have recently resulted in defeating terrorist groups in most areas of the country.
Although Afghan National Defense and Security Forces are currently facing with lots of problems and challenges in their working areas, they are still working hard to address threats posed by terrorist groups in various parts of the country so that the people can live in peaceful environment.
It is worth mentioning that in the past few decades, hundreds thousands of terrorists from various countries of the world have been trained by leaders and terrorist groups in Pakistan where they have still safe havens from which they organize and plan attacks on various parts of Afghanistan.
During the continued war and violence in Afghanistan, hundreds thousands of Afghans have been killed, wounded and displaced from their home towns and have suffered billions of dollars financial losses. Now, if Pakistan stops supporting Taliban and all other terrorist groups in its soil, take serious actions against the groups and help Afghanistan government in peace process, Afghanistan will soon reach lasting peace and stability and the people of both Afghanistan and Pakistan will live then in a peaceful environment.
