KABUL: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani was profoundly saddened over the terrorist attacks that targeted convoy of Rahmatullah Yarmal, the Governor of Laghman and Hamdullah Arbab, a member of Access to Information Commission, a statement said
President Ghani, who is on official visit in Qatar, strongly denounced the heinous acts of terror that killed and wounded scores of our innocent compatriots including children and elderlies, the presidential press office said.
The President said Taliban can never achieve their objectives by escalation of violence and targeted killings. He underscored that the group must agree to a ceasefire, which is the people of Afghanistan and the international community’s call for achieving sustainable peace and stability in the country.
President Ghani offered his deepest sympathies to families of the deceased and wished speedy recovery for the wounded, the statement added.
The president’s condemnation came at the time that according to the country’s Interior Ministry, the convoy of Laghman Governor Rehmatullah Yarmal was hit by a suicide car bombing in the provincial capital city Mehtarlaam, some 150 kilometers (93 miles) east of the capital Kabul.
The ministry spokesman Tariq Arian said in a statement that four armed guards of the governor and four civilians were killed in the attack and more than 20 people sustained injuries.
