KABUL: Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon on Monday received Mir Rahman Rahmani, the Speaker of Afghanistan’s lower house of parliament (Wolesi Jirga).
According to the Tajik president’s official website, the two sides discussed various aspects of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Afghanistan. Tajik leader, in particular, emphasized the importance of inter-parliamentary cooperation for expansion of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
He also pointed to the need to develop the legal foundation for the bilateral cooperation between the two countries and a role of parliaments in that process.
They also paid a special attention for the issue of the Afghanistan peace negotiations and Emomali Rahmon pointed to necessity of seeking effective ways of restoring sustainable peace and stability in Afghanistan.
Tajik leader reiterated Tajikistan’s support for efforts of Afghan government to restore peace and stability in Afghanistan.
Emomali Rahmon especially emphasized the importance of a senior officials meeting and the 9th Ministerial Conference of the Heart of Asia – Istanbul Process (HoA-IP) that are expected to take place in Dushanbe on March 29 and 30.
In the context of providing regional security, the two sides emphasized the necessity of expanding bilateral cooperation in strengthening border controls and expanding bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Afghanistan in addressing modern threats and challenges such as terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking.
They also exchanged views on a number of international and regional issues being of mutual interest.
