Surging COVID-19 cases: Afghanistan records another 56 deaths

KABUL: The Ministry of Public Health on Monday reported 1,582 new positive cases of COVID-19 out of 4,671 samples tested in the last 24 hours. The ministry also reported 56 deaths and 376 recoveries from COVID-19 in the same period.

It is the highest recorded COVID-19 death toll in 24 hours since the pandemic began in Afghanistan.

The ministry reported that the cumulative total of known COVID-19 cases is 82,326, the total number of reported deaths is 3,251, and the total number of recoveries is 58,998.

According to Johns Hopkins University, the number of deaths from COVID-19 globally is more than 3,730,065 and the number of known global coronavirus cases is 173,337,744.
