Reduction of international assistance may leave negative impacts on Afghan people living conditions. Economists believe that if in current conditions Afghanistan lacks international aids, would be drawn to worst economic verge. A recent report of the World Bank claims that sudden reduction of global aids to Afghanistan could damage prospects of reliable peace. The WB report indicates that in the wake of accessing to a possible peace accord, Afghanistan would be in need of US$ 6-8 billion financial support of the international community every year.
The WB report that has analyzed and assessed Afghanistan mid-term financial needs under different economic- political conditions, adds that proportion between the rate of revenues and consumptions in Afghanistan is still unbalanced and over 75 percent of the total expenditures of the Afghan government is supplied through global aids.
Total national revenues of this county have been estimated annually to US$11 billion.
The WB report suggests that reduction of global aids to Afghanistan must be gradual and expectation should be realistic on economic and financial impacts of aids following accessing to a political agreement.
Under every scenario, it is possible that financial commitments for Afghanistan would be limited comparing the aids in the past. The biggest benefit for Afghans in the wake of a possible political agreement with Taliban would be increase of private sector investment, creation of employment opportunities and further access to services.
Economist Saifuddin Saihoon said, in the last 19 years, the world community played very good role of aids to Afghanistan and made generous assistance to Afghan people. I believe that if the world reduces aids, we would have no autarchy neither today nor tomorrow without these aids.
He added, at present most expenditures of the government are ensured from foreign aids. If the Afghan government would have exploited these unique opportunities in the benefit of its economic growth properly, probably we would have been standing on our feet new to an extent. Gradual reduction of international aids under current condition not only badly impacts our economy but would slow the peace process too.
According to Afghan people, sudden cut of aids to Afghanistan in present situation influcts unpleasant impacts on people living conditions.
Investments, construction of tens development projects, water dams, roads, and other expenditures depend on these aids. All of above targets are financed by WB. In lack of WB aids, Afghanistan would not manage to fight ISIS.
