Safeguarding human values govt.’s top priority: VP Danesh

KABUL: Omar Waraich, Deputy South Asia Director at Amnesty International called on Second Vice President Sarwar Danesh yesterday.
In the meeting, both sides discussed steps and commitments pledged by Afghanistan government in support of human rights, human rights defenders, women rights and media.
Mr. Waraich assessed efforts of Afghanistan government towards fulfilling commitments made for maintaining human rights as well as achievements of Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission as positive. He added that the Amnesty International hoped that Afghanistan presidential candidates would soon assure the organization for their support and implementation of the human rights commitments in Afghanistan.
Deputy South Asia director at Amnesty International praised creation of a joint committee of the government and media in Afghanistan, hoping that such mechanism would be followed for supporting the human rights defenders in Afghanistan.
In the meeting, second vice president Sarwar Danesh considered protection of achievements in human rights as well as social and human rights values as the principal demands of Afghanistan people, stressing that strengthening of such values was in top priorities of Afghanistan government.
He added that Afghanistan government was determined to protection of women rights, freedom of expression, war victims rights and social values in peace process.
