KABUL: A change of command ceremony was held at NATO’s Resolute Support Mission headquarters in northern Balkh province, a statement From RS mission said on Saturday.
The Train, Advise and Assist Command North of NATO’s Resolute Support Mission was handed over by the Chief of Staff of the Resolute Support Mission HQ, German General Lieutenant Thorsten Poschwatta, from Brigadier General Jürgen Brötz to Brigadier General Ansgar Meyer
Furthermore, the command of the German Contingent in Afghanistan was handed over during the ceremony. Due to COVID-19 preventive measures, the ceremony was conducted in an adapted manner.
The outgoing commander, General Brötz, looked back on his time as Commander: “I am proud and grateful for what me and my team were able to achieve in the past year.”
He said by their core mission “to train, to advise and to assist”, they made an essential contribution to Afghan partners and thus the future of Afghanistan in the North.”
In addition, the outgoing Commander stated: “I will always have a special place in my heart for my time here in Afghanistan. It has been an honor.”
General Brötz‘ successor, Brigadier General Meyer, is now responsible for about 2000 multinational servicemen and women in Camp Marmal. The focus of the mission is on advising the 209th and 217th Corps of the Afghan National Army.
