President Ghani, Qatar Emir discuss expanding bilateral relations


KABUL: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met with His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar, on the sidelines of Munich Security Conference here the other day, a statement from the presidential press office said yesterday.
His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani said that his government supports a peace process owned and led by the Afghan government. They also discussed expanding bilateral relations between the government of Afghanistan and State of Qatar, the statement added.
President Ghani extended gratitude to His Highness the Emir of Qatar for his government’s efforts to support Afghan government led and owned peace process, and said that Afghans, who suffered for four decades, deserve peace, the statement said. According to another report, President Ghani met Anwar Gargash, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) minister of state for foreign affairs. Gargash conveyed the president, the wishes of UAE leadership and said his government was supporting the Afghan-led peace process. President Ghani also conveyed his good wishes to the leadership of the UAE and hailed the positive role it was playing in the Afghan peace drive.
