KABUL: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani on the sideline of SCO summit in Bishkek, the capital city of Kyrgyzstan here on Friday evening, a presidential statement said yesterday.
The two leaders discussed enhancing bilateral ties, regional consensus for peace in Afghanistan, Afghan led peace talks and regional cooperation, the statement added.
Iranian President said that the two countries relations were based on mutual interest and international principles, adding Iran was ready to help the Afghan peace process.
Meanwhile, President Rouhani vowed to jointly work with Afghanistan to prevent drug trafficking and called Chabahar port economically important for Afghanistan, Iran and India.
Thanking Iran’s support of Peace in Afghanistan, President Ghani said coordination and cooperation of the countries were important for the peace process in the country. The president went on saying that ANDSF not only fighting terrorists, but also carried out successful operations against drug trafficker’s ad their processing factories, the statement added.
