KABUL: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on Sunday evening met with Qamar Gul, an Afghan girl who shot and killed two Taliban fighters after they killed her parents in Taiwara district of Ghor province in July this year, the presidential press office said yesterday
Praising her bravery, the President, as quoted in the statement said: “You are the pride of the country, your courage and bravery are commendable, and you revived the Malalai history, the heroin of the Maiwand battle.”
President Ghani said that the government will take action to provide her with a place to live and study, the statement added.
Qamar Gul’s action has been widely celebrated in Afghanistan as an act of heroism and a symbol of Afghan women’s resilience. Her picture holding AK-47 has gone viral in Afghan social media.
