President Ghani, Pakistan’s army chief stress joint efforts against COVID-19

KABUL: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani in a phone conversation with General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff on Thursday afternoon discussed joint efforts to prevent the spread of covid-19 as well as trade and transit matters, a statement from the presidential press office said yesterday. General Bajwa extended congratulations to President Ashraf Ghani on his re-election as well as formation of the inclusive peace negotiating delegation of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Having welcomed the formation of the inclusive delegation, The Pakistani Chief of Army Staff expressed hope it could serve as a step forward to beginning peace negotiations with the Taliban group. The Afghan and Pakistani sides urged that fighting the spread of covid-19 requires a collective commitment at regional and global level and emphasized on joint efforts by the two countries to overcome the pandemic disease. The two sides also agreed to take necessary steps to facilitate transportation of trading items into Afghanistan in order to help Afghan traders transfer their commodities as soon as possible.
