KABUL: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani in a meeting with the speaker and several members of the Lower House (Wolesi Jirga) Thursday evening congratulated on election of the house’s administrative board, a statement said. The president called mutual respect, coordination and cooperation significant factors that need to be enhanced among the three branches of the government, the presidential press office statement added. Lower House Speaker Mir Rahman Rahmani and the administrative board lauded the president’s efforts for peace and preventing the coronavirus spread. Given the public concerns over the spread of corona and ambiguities in the peace process, they expressed hope that political differences be settled and called on the political figures to work together for progress and welfare in the country. President Ghani said the government’s efforts are underway to contain the spread of covid-19 and ensure the safety of the citizens, as tens of sessions have been held to deal with the pandemic since registration of the first corona virus in the country. The president once again reiterated that people of Afghanistan want a dignified and sustainable peace that can bring an end to the four-decade conflict in our homeland. President Ghani said the future cabinet of the country will represent all demographics of the country, where the opportunity to serve will be provided for prominent academic and political figures based on their competence and eligibility. He said any opportunity should be seized to deal with current crises and to ensure stability, progress and welfare in the country.
