KABUL: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani held separate meetings with Pakistan’s political leaders from different political parties and discussed bilateral relationship and regional cooperation, the presidential press office said on Friday.
The president met Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Shabaz Sharif, Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, Mohamood Khan Achakzai, Mulana Fazal Rahman and Siraj-ul-Haq in Islamabad on Thursday evening, the statement said.
Political leadership of Pakistan welcomed President Ghani and termed his trip to Pakistan vital for restoring the atmosphere of trust and normalizing ties between the two countries.
President Ghani stressed that relationship between the two countries should be based on mutual respect to the national integrity of the two countries, the statement added.
Eradication of poverty, regional and economic cooperation, security and stability were also discussed during meetings with different Pakistani politicians. The president thanked the people of Pakistan for the hospitality and said Afghanistan wanted to maintain cordial relationship with Pakistan and other countries based on acceptable international norms and values, the statement concluded as saying.
