President Ghani meets German, Iranian special envoys for Afghanistan

KABUL: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met with Germany’s special envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Markus Potzel in his office on Thursday, a presidential statement said. According to the presidential press office, Potzel said his country was ready to facilitate intra-Afghan talks for peace and added, Germany was ready for any type of support regarding peace in Afghanistan. President Ghani thanked Germany for its cooperation with Afghanistan in different areas and said the Afghan government welcomed any efforts that could help achieve peace and stability in Afghanistan.
He said Afghanistan welcomed Germany’s support to facilitate intra-Afghan peace dialogue and the Afghan government was doing everything it could to ensure peace in the country. According to another report, President Ghani met with Mohammad Ibrahim Taherian, Iranian special envoy for Afghanistan at the Presidential Palace on Thursday. During the meeting which was also attended by Iranian ambassador to Kabul, both sides discussed bilateral issues, economic cooperation, upcoming presidential elections and security, the statement from presidential press office added.
