KABUL: The President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, met yesterday morning with General McKenzie, Commander of the US Central Command, at the Presidential palace.
During the meeting, both sides discussed the Afghan peace process, the security situation, the support of the Afghan security and defense forces, and the strengthening of security cooperation, the presidential press office said.
“I am here to reassure you and the people of Afghanistan that the United States remains committed to the peace, development and security of Afghanistan and that we stand with you to ensure that Afghanistan does not become a safe haven for terrorism again,” said Gen. McKenzie.
On the other hand, President Ghani welcomed General McKenzie and thanked him for further strengthening the security partnership, saying that peace is a fundamental desire of the Afghan people and a top priority for the government, and that the Taliban must renounce war and violence, the statement added.
