KABUL: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met with Dr. Abdullah Abdullah Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation the other day, Sediq Seddiqi, a presidential spokesman said yesterday.
They talked about the peace process, future steps and preparations in the process about the direct negotiation between the Afghan government and the Taliban, he added.
On Wednesday, Dr. Abdullah has called on the Taliban to fight for their cause through political means, not at gunpoint.
Speaking to the EU special envoy in Kabul, Dr. Abdullah said the Afghan government was cooperating with the European Union for the common cause of peace and reconciliation.
Referring to intra-Afghan talks, he said: “The Taliban may be interested in maintaining their views on various issues. The multiplicity of opinions and the multiplicity of views are among principles and the foundations of a pluralistic society.”
