KABUL: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, in an official ceremony at the presidential palace, where numerous EU Ambassadors had also attended, awarded the Ghazi Mir Masjidi Khan medal to Pierre Mayaudon, outgoing Ambassador and Head of European Union Delegation in Afghanistan.
The President said that this medal was awarded to Ambassador Pierre for his commitment to upheld meaningful ties between the EU and Afghanistan, deepening bilateral and multilateral cooperation, and taking strong steps to maintain support from the EU member countries for Afghanistan’s stability, democracy and development.
The President also stressed on the importance of Afghan-EU strategic partnership that is based on safeguarding the achievements of the past so many years upholding a free, open and an inclusive society where the rights of its citizens, women and children are protected as per the orders of the Afghan constitution.
Pierre Mayaudon, Ambassador of European Union to Afghanistan, at his farewell assured the Afghan President and the people of the continued EU support to a democratic, sovereign, and independent Afghanistan. He said the gains of the past 19 years must be preserved.
“The EU will only stand with and continue to support the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan as it will protect the fundamental rights of the Afghan people, during the Afghan peace process,” he added.
