KABUL: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani discussed and approved a water plan, aiming at harnessing water resources in Kabul city yesterday at the Presidential Palace, a statement said. The director of National Development Company Abdul Rahman Ataash briefed on the plan, which will be implemented in five zones in the mountains surrounding Kabul city and said the surveyed areas are state-owned lands, the statement from the presidential press office said yesterday. The president said building small water reservoirs and connecting them with Kabul River will lead to better urban ecosystem, agricultural improvement, greenery as well as creating employment opportunities for local people. First Vice President Amrullah Saleh stressed on resolving any legal issues and making sure the water reservoirs will not bring harmful consequences, according to the statement. President Ghani welcomed the plan and underscored a proper management and supervision of the project to create the sense of ownership among the people in the areas where it is implemented. The president termed lack of recreational facilities and sport venues, particularly for youth and women, an important issue that needs to be seriously considered, the statement added.
