KABUL: Addressing media at the Government Media and Information Center, the Presidential Palace spokesman Sediq Sediqi on Monday said people lost their trust in the peace process following recent Taliban attacks, asking the rebels to declare truce to deal with Covid-19 crisis.
He said that the Afghan government and Afghans were asking the Taliban again to stop violence and declare ceasefire as the Covid-19 would give birth to more challenges.
He said it was time that the Taliban should also consider Covid-19 pandemic seriously, otherwise they will pay for the damage.
He said, “We all should provide needed materials to people at risk of Covid-19, but Taliban violence will not let us do so.”
He said regional and international consensus was that the Taliban should announce truce. Sediqi said truce it was not only the demand of the Afghan government but of regional countries and international community to prevent coronavirus from spreading in the country.
He said Taliban attacks caused people lose their trust in the ongoing peace process. He said the Afghan government was committed to peace process and had taken practically steps in this regard.
