Although peace talks between US delegates led by Zalmay Khalilzad and representatives of the Taliban are ongoing in Doha, capital city of Qatar, fighting has intensified in battlefields between Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) and Taliban fighters in the country’s north in particular Badakhshan province.
A number of senators and members of Badakhshan provincial council while expressing concern over increasing of activities of Taliban fighters in some districts of the province say the country’s security organs should take preventive steps for the prevention of activities of the group in the province.
“Kashm, Kohistan, Jerm, Yamgan, Taftal and Wardooj districts of Badakhshan are facing with serious threats of Taliban fighters due to increasing activities of the group in recent week,” said Hussaini, a member of Afghanistan Senate.
He added that ANDSF were not that much equipped and did not have sufficient military equipment although there were enough number of forces in Badakhshan, asking the country’s defense and security organs to take necessary step and address increasing concerns of the people in the province.
He also asked security organs to implement their aggressive plans in the country’s north in particular Badakhshan province facing with increasing threats posed by Taliban fighters as soon as possible.
Members of Afghanistan Senate have also asked for close coordination between the country’s defense and security organs to maintain better security in the country’s north in particular Badakhshan province.
“Badakhshan is one of the country’s most significant and strategic provinces bordering Pakistan, China and Tajikistan. Besides, its natural resources have caused that Taliban fighters want to deteriorate situation in the province to make use of the situation for illegal extraction of some mines in the province,” said Javed Javed, a member of Badakhshan provincial council.
He stressed that half of districts of the province were facing with serious security threats as Taliban fighters were making effort to disrupt security and order in the province.
Member of Badakhshan provincial council say although the country’s defense and security organs have taken some steps for clearing areas from presence of armed opponent groups in the province, it has been not sufficient as most of districts of the province were facing with threats posed by Taliban fighters.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Defense (MoD) says Afghan National Army forces with close coordination and cooperation of all other security organs have increased their aggressive operations both air and ground ones to suppress armed Taliban fighters in the country’s north in particular Badakhshan soon after the winter season began.
“Military operations of the country’s ANDSF are underway in the country’s north in particular Badakhshan province,” said Fawad Aman, deputy spokesperson to MoD.
He stressed that security situation in the country’s north was under full control of the government as ANDSF were in the aggressive position and target and suppress Taliban fighters upon doing any activity in the country’s north.
It is worth mentioning that provinces in the country’s north are so important; therefore, the government should not let Taliban fighters threaten the provinces and their people. In the meantime, the country’s defense and security organs should take all necessary steps towards maintaining security in the country’s north in particular Badakhshan province.
