By: The Kabul Times

KABUL: Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Friday that peace in Afghanistan will benefit both Pakistan and Afghanistan by opening new avenues for cooperation and enhance connectivity with the Central Asian countries.
PM Khan was talking to Speaker of Wolesi Jirga, or the lower house of Afghan parliament Mir Rahman Rahmani along with his delegation in Islamabad. An Afghan parliamentary delegation, headed by Rahmani, arrived in Pakistan on Friday to discuss relations between the two parliaments and Pakistan’s role in the Afghan peace process, and also to boost economic ties.
PM Khan welcomed Rahmani on his visit to Pakistan and appreciated increased exchanges between the two parliaments, said a statement issued by the prime minister office.
He reiterated Pakistan’s desire to enhance fraternal relations with Afghanistan in all areas and said that there is no military solution to the conflict in Afghanistan.
Emphasizing the need for a negotiated political settlement, the Pakistani prime minister reiterated Pakistan’s consistent support to achieve peace and stability in Afghanistan.
According to Pakistani media, PM Khan said that Pakistan and Afghanistan have untapped economic synergies and complementarities which can only be realized through cooperation in the economic and trade sphere.
The Afghan parliamentarians are expected to take part in a two-day Pakistan-Afghanistan Trade and Investment Forum in Islamabad, beginning on Monday, which will explore ways to boost trade ties between the two countries.
