Outgoing NATO ambassador hails President Ghani’s wise leadership

KABUL: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani held farewell meeting with outgoing NATO civil representative for Afghansitan, Nicholas Kay, here yesterday, a statement said.

During the video conference, President Ghani praised Nicholas Key’s efforts during his mission in Afghanistan, first as British ambassador and as later as the NATO representative for the past three years, the statement from the presidential press office said.

Thanking president’s support and Afghan government’s good cooperation, the outgoing official said that have worked and fight together with government of Afghanistan against the challenges, the statement added.

“When you took over as president of Afghansitan in 2014, there were many challenges for you, especially in the security and economic fields, but you were able to lead with your wise leadership,” he told the president during the meeting, adding overcoming these challenges would make Afghanistan have good progress in many areas.

NATO’s Kay added, as quoted in the statement, that his organization will continue its cooperation with Afghanistan in order to support the security and defense forces, especially in the fields of education and technical cooperation, as well as the fight against the corona virus.

At the end of the meeting, President Ghani wished success to the NATO Ambassador and said that Afghanistan wants close relations with its neighbors and was interested in working with them to address the challenges facing us and the countries of the region, especially in the field of food immunity, the statement concluded as saying.
