NUG leaders thank Croatian support of Afghanistan

KABUL: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitaroviæhere at the Presidential Palace yesterday, a statement said.
Both sides discussed enhancing bilateral ties, Afghan-led peace process, ceasefire, counterterrorism and elections, the presidential statement added.
Croatian president said that she was having special interest towards Afghanistan, adding her country would continue social, cultural, health, economic and development cooperation within the framework of the Resolute Support Mission to Afghanistan.
President Kitaroviæ said her country was in favor of durable peace in Afghanistan and invited President Ghani to visit Croatia with an economic delegation and representatives of the private sectors.
Welcoming his Croatian Counterpart, President Ghani thanked her invitation and praised the country’s support to Afghanistan.
The President said European bazaars were that of high importance for Afghanistan and emphasized on two countries’ cooperation on identification Afghanistan’s exporting items, including that of saffron and nut.
According to another report, Chief Executive (CE) Dr. Abdullah Abdullah on Sunday met with visiting Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitaroviæ at the Sapidar Palace and thanked her country’s support of the Afghan Forces as part of NATO’s Reoslute Support Mission.
A statement from the CE office quoted Dr. Abdullah as insisting that supporting the Afghan forces in their fight against terrorism and ensuring security for the upcoming elections and peace was important.
About security and political situation of Afghanistan, Dr. Abdullah said: “Political stability and good governance are important for eliminating terrorism and improving the general situation.”
He sought regional and international support in fighting terrorism which he called ‘a common global threat.’
Meanwhile, the Croatian President, Kolinda Grabar-Kitaroviæ, reaffirmed her country’s cooperation with Afghan security forces in fighting terrorism. She said she met with Croatian forces in Mazar-e-Sharif and stressed on the importance of peace and stability for the entire world. She said their forces would not hesitate to assist the Afghan forces.
President Grabar-Kitaroviæ also called for strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between the two countries and said Afghanistan and Croatia had a long history of relations.
The two sides also discussed peace talks, upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections, regional cooperation for fighting terrorism and ensuring peace in Afghanistan.
They also conferred on the US strategy for Afghanistan and South Asia, the role of Croatian troops in assisting Afghan forces and political and security situation of Afghanistan during the meeting.
