NUG leaders meet Italian defense minister

KABUL: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met yesterday with Italian minister of defense Elisabetta Trenta at presidential palace.
In the meeting, both sides exchanged views and discussed various issues in particular expansion of bilateral cooperation and strengthening of Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF).
President Ghani praised Italy for its cooperation with Afghanistan in particular Herat and while calling relations of Afghanistan and Italy as historical said the relations between the two countries would enter to 100 years next year.
In the meeting, the Italian minister of defense by praising President Ghani for his efforts towards reforms, counter corruption, strengthening of women’s role and acceleration of peace process, saying Italy would stand beside the people and government of Afghanistan.
According to another report, chief executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah also met with the Italian minister of defense Elisabetta Trenta at Sapidar palace.
In the meeting, chief executive delivered clear image of security situation in Afghanistan, asking Italy for continued presence and increasing of the country’s assistance to Afghanistan.
The Italian minister of defense by praising the government and people of Afghanistan considered positive changes in the country and armed forces as satisfactory, assuring of her country’s continued assistance to Afghanistan.
In the meeting, recent political changes, parliamentary and presidential elections and effective ways for joint counter terrorism were discussed.
