KABUL: Following political agreement between President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, Lower House of Afghanistan parliament has asked the government to introduce designate ministers and new cabinet members for vote of confidence to the parliament.
MPs have also said that the process of running ministries by acting ministers should end as it is unlike the law, asking the government to introduce new members of the cabinet as soon as possible so that the newly-appointed ministers be responsive to the parliament and nation.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan government says the process of introduction of new designate ministers for formation of new cabinet is underway and will soon introduce to the parliament for vote of confidence.
“One of the main job of the government and political leadership is to introduce designate ministers as soon as possible to the parliament for vote of confidence,” said Sediq Sediqi, a spokesperson to President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani.
Following the political agreement between President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, it is determined that new members of the cabinet are introduced equally from both sides.
Although political leaders of the country have not finalized the process of introduction of designate ministers for the new cabinet so far, designate ministers for foreign affairs, finance, public health, information and culture, women’s affairs, state ministry for natural disasters and urban development have been introduced.
Meanwhile, a number of Afghan political experts in their interviews with The Kabul Times correspondent believe that recent step taken by leaders of Afghanistan government are showing national consensus for strengthening democracy in the country.
In recent years, a number of ministers have been run by acting ministers, which has been considered as challenges towards reforms and good governance and criticized by the people and members of Afghanistan parliament in particular.
“Our demand from the country’s President and head of national reconciliation council is to introduce new members of the cabinet to parliament for vote of confidence,” said Mirdad Nijrabi, a member of lower house of Afghanistan parliament.
President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani in swearing in ceremony has committed to introduce designate ministers to the parliament as soon as possible.
Afghan experts say the government should consider tribal combination in introduction of the new cabinet as all tribes and classes of the people of Afghanistan want to see their faces in the mirror of the government.
“Afghan political leaders should finalize introduction of new faces in the cabinet and introduce them to parliament as soon as possible as all the people are waiting and would like to see the government’s action in this regard,” said Amir Mohammad, an Afghan expert.
This comes after the political agreement between President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and Dr. Abdullah Abdullah. Based on the agreement, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah took the chairmanship of national reconciliation council. The agreement has been welcomed by the UN, US, regional and world countries.
