More tourists if peace restored in Afghanistan, minister

KABUL: Acting Minister of Information and Culture, Mohammad Tahir Zuhair said that Afghanistan had the capacity of attracting more tourists if peace restored, Bakhtar News Agency reported Sunday.
In a ceremony marking the World Tourism Day at the historical Timurshahi Garden, where a three-day exhibition displaying handicrafts and domestic products was held, the acting minister spoke on the tourism capacity of the country and said: “Peace is one of the tourism infrastructures, Afghanistan lacked it direly.”
He said the country had plenty of tourism attractions and can be one of the world’s tourism objectives.
He said Afghanistan has been one of the world tourism objectives in decade 40 (solar calendar) and that regular plan existed for attraction of tourists to the country.
“In order to further thrive and introduce tourism attractions in Afghanistan, the national tourism board was established for which the role of private sector is very important,” said the acting minister as quoted by the agency.
According to him, getting functioning of the tourism industry in the country, would help increase the national revenues, households’ incomes and overcome poverty.
To conclude with, the acting minister said that his led ministry had extensive tourism program countrywide and had enough preparation for welcoming tourism.
