KABUL: On Tuesday, the Ministry of Public Health reported 1,501 new positive cases of COVID-19 out of 4,799 samples tested in the last 24 hours.
The ministry also reported 77 deaths from COVID-19 and 811 recoveries in the same period. COVID-19 deaths have remained high over the last four weeks while the number of recoveries has also surged in the last three days.
The total recorded cases are 118,659 and the total deaths are 4,871, according to figures by the Public Health Ministry. Rejecting reports to the contrary, schools and universities remain closed, the ministry said on Tuesday, adding that they will not reopen unless the number of COVID-19 cases starts to fall.
The ministry said that despite a slight decrease in the number of COVID-19 deaths, the positive cases continue to remain high. Johns Hopkins University reports that the number of deaths from COVID-19 globally is more than 3,930,657 and the number of known global coronavirus cases is 181,464,256.
