MoIC recovers 160 historical artifacts in Nangarhar

JALALABAD: The Ministry of Information and Culture (MoIC) has recovered 160 historical objects in the country’s eastern province of Nangarhar, an official said Tuesday. Excavation work on uncovering the artifacts has been started three years ago in Sabzabad hillside of the province, but was suspended due to the militants’ intensifying war and violence in the country, Rahimullah Khogyani Director of the Provincial Information and Culture told The Kabul Times.

kar Copy The artifacts including coins, gypsum coffins, military helmets (belonging to the Koshanid era) as well as 11 immovable others, dating back to 2,500 years, have been said to reach to the Buddhist, Islamic and Koshanid eras, said Khogyani. “Under the instruction of the Ministry of Information and Culture, the recovered artifacts would be kept in the Sera-jul-Emarat, after being completely reconstructed,” the director added. Also, some of the recovered historical artifacts would be taken to the provincial museum of Nangarhar, he said.

10 2Work on reconstruction of the palace reaching to the Amir Habibullah Khan era and which has been destroyed during the recent wars, is expected to be completed soon, according to the official. Excavation or recovery of the remaining historical artifacts are underway and expected to uncover more objects in the near future, he said. The director went on as saying that many shrines and tombs in Surkhrood district of the province, which have been destroyed due to wars or natural events would be reconstructed soon and work on restoration of some of them has been kicked off.

mo 1 This is to be noted there are many other historical monuments including shrines, stupas, tombs and the like in the remote areas of the province, impossible to visit.
