KABUL: The country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has welcomed the removal of the Afghan National Police (ANP) from the UN Child Solider Recruiter list, a statement from the ministry said Sunday.
The UN Secretary-General’s 2020 Report on Children and Military Conflict called the implementation of the Afghan National Police Action Plan to prevent recruitment and reduce violence against children a success, according to the statement.
“The removal of the Afghan National Police from the UN Secretary General’s Infamous List is a result of the ongoing progress to implement the national action plan and prevent the recruitment of children into the country’s security forces,” the statement said, adding this development demonstrated that the Afghan government was committed to the international values of human rights and good governance.
The Government of Afghanistan hopes that countries and international institutions will prevent the recruitment and violence against children by imposing political pressure and sanctions on the Taliban and other armed opposition groups, the statement concluded.
