Minister Zuhair seeks Chinese support for protection of Afghanistan’s cultural heritage

KABUL: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Protection of Cultural Heritage was signed via a video conference between the Ministry of Information and Culture and the People’s Republic of China here yesterday, Bakhtar Information Agency reported. Based on MoU signed by the head of the National Bureau of Cultural Heritage of the People’s Republic of China with Mohammad Tahir Zuhair, acting minister of Information and Culture, China to support and cooperate with Afghanistan in protection of cultural heritage.
Addressing the event, the Acting Minister of Information and Culture thanked the Chinese Government for its cooperation and support with Afghanistan and said that the Chinese Government, as a generous supporter, has helped Afghanistan in various fields, especially in public health, agriculture, infrastructure and protection of cultural heritage.
He stressed the importance of support and cooperation program for the Afghanistan Cultural Heritage, noting that the People’s Republic of China, as a major sponsor, has cooperated with Afghanistan in capacity-building programs, as well as facilitated exhibition of Afghanistan’s treasures in that country.
Following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, the National Bureau of Cultural Heritage of the People’s Republic of China launched a video conference with the participation of experts from Archeology and the National Museums of Afghanistan, China and Pakistan.
In this workshop, the protection of cultural heritage and joint cooperation in this regard were discussed, and experts from the three countries presented their views and suggestions. China also signed a memorandum of understanding with Pakistan during the virtual meeting.
