Minister Safi stresses on historical monuments’ preservation

KABUL: In a meeting held on Tuesday, UNESCO cultural section in-charge shared Bamian cultural projects’ operational plan with Acting Minister of Information and Culture Hasina Safi, Bakhtar News Agency (BNA) reported.
According to the agency, Italy Agency for Development Cooperation assisted $5mln for Bamian statues’ restoration projects, to establish an archeology park and help the province’s historical monuments to get rid of danger.
UNESCO will also hold training workshops for the ministry of information and culture professional employees’ capacity building on preservation of historical monuments and relics.
UNESCO in-charge pointed out that $45000 has been allocated to executive articles of 1954 convention which are on protection of cultural assets during armed conflicts.
Furthermore, the meeting discussed emergency budget to protect historical monuments and prevent destruction of two minarets in Herat and Ghor provinces.
Appreciating UNESCO and other partner entities that assisted the ministry of information and culture on protection and restoration of historical monuments and cultural heritages, Acting Minister Safi stressed on protection of historical monuments particularly those facing destruction.
