KABUL: The Acting Minister of National Defense, Asadullah Khalid, traveled to Helmand yesterday to assess the situation in the province.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Defense, the Minister visited Helmand to assess the situation in the province and meet with local officials.
Clashes between Afghan security forces and the Taliban have been raging in Helmand province since Sunday, with Afghan forces saying they had inflicted heavy casualties on Taliban insurgents.
Addressing media in Lashkargah, the provincial capita, minister Khalid said central government has remained beside the local organs and reiterated full support to the Afghan forces in the province.
He also said that Taliban won’t achieve their goals via propaganda war, praising Afghan forces bravery and sacrifices in war against enemies.
This comes as two ANA helicopters have collided in the Nawa district of southern Helmand province on Tuesday night.
Reports indicated; the copters have crashed after the Afghan commandos were dropped to conduct a mission, one of the choppers was reportedly transporting the wounded soldiers.
Security sources in Helmand province say that between 9 security personnel have been martyred in the collision incident.
