KABUL: Acting Foreign Minister Mohammad Haneef Atmar met with his Finnish counterpart Pekka Haavisto over dinner. Rangina Hamidi, Acting Minister of Education and Karima Faryabi, Acting Minister of Economy were also present, a MoFA statement said yesterday.
During the meeting, Foreign Minister Atmar thanked Finland for its comprehensive assistance and cooperation to Afghanistan over the past 19 years, as well as its support for the peace process, according to the statement.
The two sides then discussed preparations for the Geneva Conference which is due to be held next month. They discussed the recent developments in the peace process, desired end state in peace talks, reduction in high level of violence and establishing an immediate ceasefire., the statement said.
Both sides agreed on ensuring further strengthening of bilateral ties between their respective countries.
In this meeting, Ministers of Education and Economy shared their perspectives with regards to the preparations for Geneva Conference. Minister Hamidi referred to educational cooperation and capacity building and Minister Faryabi shared her thoughts on the expansion of economic and investment cooperation between Afghanistan and Finland.
In closing, the two sides stressed on the commitment and support of the countries and the international organization participating in the Geneva Conference on the peace process and a united, sovereign and democratic Afghanistan, while preserving the achievements of the last 19 years of Afghanistan and its people, the statement added.
