KABUL: A meeting chaired by First Vice President Amrullah Saleh to strengthen border cooperation, fight against smugglers and expand cooperation between the border commissioners of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran was held yesterday at the Presidential palace, a statement said.
The meeting was also attended by acting Foreign Minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar, Chief of General Staff Bismillah Waziri, Deputy Minister for Security Affairs Abdul Saboor Qaneh and Ebadullah Ebad, Deputy for NDS, the presidential palace said.
The meeting discussed border security, the fight against smuggling groups and the development of cooperation between the two countries’ border commissioners.
It was also decided at the meeting that during his forthcoming visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Foreign Minister meet with the Iranian authorities and discuss the renewal of the Border Commissioners’ Agreement between the two countries that was reached in 1335 solar year and effective and practical mechanisms to ensure common border security as well as fight against traffickers and supporting human trafficking victims who are being held at the common border and return them properly, the statement added.
The meeting followed a meeting of the National Security Council chaired by the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan earlier this week.
