KABUL: 12th death anniversary of King Mohammad Zahir (Father of the Nation) was held on Maranjan Hill on Wednesday, Bakhtar News Agency (BNA) reported.
In a ceremony held on this occasion on Maranjan Hill nearby Zahir Shah’s tomb, Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, former president Hamid Karzai, a number of presidential elections runners, political parties’ leaders, civil and women rights’ activists, foreign countries’ ambassadors and some others were present.
At the outset, presidential cultural advisor Zareen Anzor read out the president’s message, in a part of which reminds the people of peace and tranquility during Zahir Shah Kingdom period and as the country was moving towards development and democracy.
In another part of the message it was mentioned that this year, death anniversary of the king took place while preparations are being taken for the country’s 100th independence anniversary and this is a good opportunity to review the successes and failures of a century.
CE Abdullah said that Zahir Shah was interested to poem, literature, art and sport and above all he was a hind person.
Dr. Abdullah added that Zahir Shah had never endangered national interests due to personal interests.
The king’s return to the country and stay by the nation after the situation was paved indicated his patriotism, CE Abdullah added.
At the end, Fazel Ahmad Popal read out the message of King Mohammad Zahir’s family which said that Father of the Nation’s return to the country after Bonn conference was effective on prevention of fueling tensions and his behavior in the field of changes in Afghanistan indicated that he was the most realistic political figure in the modern history of Afghanistan.
The message also pointed out at peace talks and declared support from the process.
At the end, the participants laid a flower wreath on Father of the Nation’s tomb.
