Khalilzad welcomes Afghanistan, Pakistan leaders’ phone conversation

KABUL: US envoy for reconciliation in Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad has welcomed telephonic conversation between President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan in a tweet.
“Pleased to see PM @ImranKhanPTI and Pres @ashrafghani spoke today,” the US envoy tweeted after the two leaders spoke on phone and discussed the Afghanistan peace process and regional connectivity.
Khalilzad said both leaders said they prized the economic dividend peace could bring, especially the potential gains from regional connectivity and integration. “That’s a common vision that can truly propel the region forward.”
In their Sunday’s conversation, President Ghani and Pakistani Imran Khan agreed to capitalize on the true economic potential of the two countries for assured socio-economic development, alleviation of poverty, and welfare of the two peoples.
