Competitions of disabled women wheelchair basketball has launched between four teams from four provinces in Kabul. The competition has been launched on the occasion of International Women’s Day with close cooperation of National Paralympic Committee and International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). As a result of the competitions, Kabul team has got the first position, while Herat and Balkh have got the second and third position accordingly.
According to head of public relations of the Paralympic Committee Kabir Khoshbin, the competition was aimed to mark the International Women’s Day as well as to select better and new faces for the national team.
“40 disabled women players from four provinces have taken part in the competitions as a result of which the Kabul Wheelchair Basketball Team beat all teams and won the championship,” Khosbin said, stressing that the more such competitions are held, the more morale and experiences of women disabled players increase and get ready for further competitions abroad.
Meanwhile, head of Afghanistan Wheelchair Basketball Federation Abdul Hussain Hesari says they want to deliver message of peace through sports to the people of Afghanistan.
He said that it was an honor that disabled women players have played well in the competitions despite of economic problems they were facing with.
He hoped that Afghan female wheelchair basketball players by getting further and better experiences from the competitions could participate in international competitions to bring honors to the country.
