KABUL: Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Saturday conveyed to Afghan Foreign Minister Mohammad Haneef Atmar that India will always stand with the people of Afghanistan.
Jaishankar said the role of neighbors in the Afghan peace process figured in his conversation with FM Atmar.
In the telephonic talk, the two foreign ministers discussed the evolving situation in Afghanistan following the announcement by the US to withdraw its forces from the conflict-ridden country by September 11.
According to a MoFA statement, FM Atmar appreciated India’s continued cooperation, especially in the fight against COVID 19, and expressed hope that the spread of the Coronavirus in India would soon be curbed.
During the meeting, FM Atmar highlighted the latest developments, including the end of the US military presence and the new chapter of US-Afghan cooperation in the security, political and development sectors in the post-exit phase, and called the expansion of regional cooperation important for the success of the peace process.
