KABUL: The Independent Election Commission (IEC) said on Saturday that the announcement of preliminary results of the presidential election held on September 28 has been delayed, as the transfer of election data from biometric devices to the main server has not been finished. A spokesman for IEC, Abdul Aziz Ibrahimi, told The Kabul Times that the initial results’ delay was decided during a meeting of the commission officials on Saturday. According to Ibrahimi, the commission was committed towards transparent election process and won’t make any hasty announcement of the poll outcome. According to him, separating the biometric votes from those of the non-biometric ones would take time and the possible audit of ballots might take more time and announcement of results could be delayed.
In line with the election timetable, the preliminary results of the September 28 polls were expected to be announced on Saturday.
