“We need more coordination within Afghanistan and more coordination to ensure international and regional consensus for a just and enduring peace, a peace that preserves our gains. This is one of our main messages”.

The city of Dushanbe in Tajikistan is hosting the high-ranking officials of the ninth “Heart of Asia – Istanbul Process”, which will focus on building regional consensus around Afghanistan peace process.
According to Afghanistan deputy minister of foreign affairs Merwais Nab, Afghanistan attended the meeting this year with the agenda ‘Regional Consensus in Peace and Development Process’.
President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani left Kabul yesterday morning for Tajikistan to attend the Heart of Asia – Istanbul Process ministerial conference in Dushanbe, the Presidential Palace said.
“We need more coordination within Afghanistan and more coordination to ensure international and regional consensus for a just and enduring peace, a peace that preserves our gains. This is one of our main messages,” said the deputy minister of foreign affairs, Mirwais Nab.
Tajikistan is among neighboring countries of Afghanistan and the only country that has balanced and coordinated national interests with Afghanistan national interests.
Political consultations between neighboring countries of Afghanistan, effort for implementation of the first the Heart of Asia – Istanbul process meeting approved mechanisms and coordination of Afghanistan-related all activities and programs of partnered countries and international organizations are other goals of the process.
In current circumstances and in consideration to increasing activities of terrorist groups in the region and world, Afghanistan is located in the frontline for the protection areas bordering the Central Asian countries particularly Tajikistan. Today’s effort and war on terror of Afghanistan armed forces are not only to defend the sovereignty and security of Afghanistan but to defend the security of the region and peace and stability of the world.
Today, if increasing activities of terrorist groups are not prevented in Afghanistan, the neighboring countries of Afghanistan will soon witness increasing activities of terrorist groups in their cities; therefore, Afghanistan is in top priority for mutual cooperation and friendship of Tajikistan.
Both Afghanistan and Tajikistan are members of several regional and international organizations as such the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan (RECCA), the Heart of Asia – Istanbul Process, Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Organization for the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) conference, UNESCO and World Trade Organization (WTO) and others. In most of the respective conferences, both Afghanistan and Tajikistan have had common position and defended each other’s national interests.
It is worth mentioning that representatives from at least 50 countries and international organizations attended to the conference. The meeting is expected to have a significant impact on the ongoing peace efforts for Afghanistan.
The participants will issue a statement at the end of the conference. The Heart of Asia conference was launched in 2011 as an initiative by Kabul and Ankara to help Afghanistan achieve peace. 15 countries are members of the conference and host it once every year.
